An old school stands set back, yet proudly in the Teesdale hills. It shows signs of a life well lived, years of abuse and love in equal measure.
Once home to the children of the area, it now plays host to groups of young people from all over the country to act as a base and portal into Weardale.
Sad news shadows the otherwise bustling dorms this visit. Though we have brought many Duke of Edinburgh groups here over the years, it seems that 2011 may be the last year.
Westgate is owned and operated by Durham County Council and has announced its sale. Hopefully, it will be bought by someone who appreciates its unique value as a resource and keeps it open and running.
Anyone fancy buying an old school?
