Trade in & save £60 with Staples

While in Staples recently, I saw an offer whereby you can trade in your 'old' laptop/netbook for £60 when you have purchased a laptop/netbook from them.

The offer is reasonably simply, but there are a few criteria -

  • You must have the power cable and the correct battery
  • If a PC, you must have the Microsoft authenticity sticker (they don't require this is you're trading in a Mac)
  • The screen must be free of cracks
  • The unit must boot up to OS
  • You must have removed any and all passwords so the unit can boot to OS
  • Unit must be running a Microsoft OS (Mac OSX is fine on a Mac, but seemingly Linux is not accepted)
  • Your hard drive must be larger than 40GB
So apart from slightly peculiar "40GB" peg in the proverbial sand and the annoying 'no Linux' policy, the offer seems a neat way to save yourself £60 if you're in the market for the new laptop/netbook.  It's worth pointing out that the £60 is, to all intends and purposes, a MIB (a retrospective rebate) rather than anything off at POS (when you actually make the purchase), and seems to be limited also to Staples' business account, debit and credit cards.

Is £60 enough to make you buy a new laptop or netbook from Staples, a store hardly synonymous with tech?
